dazed and confused

This is a project I completed during my exchange at the University of Brighton. I decided to base this project around a quote from the movie Dazed and Confused, focusing in on the relationship between type and language.

The quote comes from a scene where one character asks around for a “joint”, but finds that nobody has one, quipping “it would be a lot cooler if you did”. This gave me the idea of manipulating the hero typeface (which I created myself using Adobe Illustrator) in a way that resembles how shapes warp and flex in stereotypical descriptions of being ‘under the influence’ in TV and movies.

The final design emphasizes and enhances the relationship between type and language. For an even more cohesive result, the type was paired with bold colours that symbolise the era (1970’s) and the mood of the film.
