Typology book

This editorial design project, focuses on the history of typography and is targeted at designers who are passionate and eager to learn more about type.

The typology book has a simple grid layout and minimal colour palette, resulting in a clear, geometric, and systematic design. There is a type specimen inside the book that focuses on the typeface Avenir Next. This comes as a visual surprise that’s found within the geometric opening section. Avenir Next is a geometric typeface, so it worked well to place it here.

Avenir means future’ in French, which led to the idea that Avenir Next is ‘the font of the future’. To create a futuristic feel, I used gradients to highlight the time between the typeface’s creation and its current place in contemporary design. The colour palette was limited to black and white to give the book a clean, futuristic feel.

Through careful design decisions and a strong, bold concept, the end result of this project was a clear, succinct, and engaging book about typology.
